Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a Palm zealot. I have always preached the virtues of the greatest handheld operating system out there. Well, lately, I have been a bit jealous of some of the cool features I have been seeing on the latest PocketPC's. and frankly I felt bad recommending Palm over this other OS that I have never even tried. Who knows, maybe it IS better, as many have told me lately.
Well, one thing led to another and I tried to switch last week. I purchased a Viewsonic V35 and made really tried to love it. I awed at the incredible screen, put some movies and mp3's on it and ran it though it's paces, I showed it to everyone at work to get lots of opinions. I really tried to like it. Well, after a week.....I HATED IT. It crashed 3 times, installing an application is an exercise in frustration (you have to run setup programs?) and quite frankly, I felt like it was designed to give demo's rather than to give quick access to your data. End the end, I had enough. Unfortunately, in order to return it, I would have to pay a 15% restocking fee. Oh, well. Lesson learned.
Well, it turns out that as long as I bought something else, I didn't have to pay the restocking fee so I am now the owner of a Palm Zire 71. While it has a weird name, it is one COOL handheld. Runs Palm (ahh) OS5, and had a nifty built-in camera and the most amazing screen every put in a handheld.. It isn't going to replace my everyday Treo, but it will be fun for ebooks and snapping pictures.
I promise, I will not switch again. Oh, yeah, Here is a pic I took of my girlfriend's feet with my Zire while she wasn't looking :) |
