Now that my first year of shooting a Photo a Day is complete, I wanted to take my pictures and display them in a together in a poster of some sort.    After playing around with Photoshop for hours, I decided to use my other skill to solve the problem.  So I sat down and created a piece of software to take my images and arrange them into a decent looking poster.     Well, a few people commented that they liked  the output that I posted so I spent a few hours tonight to clean it up and make it usable for others.    It is somewhat different from other Mosaic software.   This software does not try to create a hidden image out of your photos....it simply arranges the images into a grid for display.  Also, it assumes that the images are square.  Any images that are not square are simple squished to be a square so unless you want squished images, you will need to do some preprocessing.    I may fix this if becomes a bother.   The image at the right is typical of the output.

Here are some of the features I put in already...

  • Sort Images by EXIF Date or Filename
  • Choose a Background Color
  • Choose how many columns of images to use (rows are calculated based on the number of images)
  • Select a folder full of images (jpeg only)

Finally, the app is built using .NET 2.0 which is still beta so the installer will ask you download the new framework from Microsoft when you install.    If after all that you are still interested here it is. Be sure to shoot me any bugs you find or ideas on how to make it better.

Well, I finished my first year of Photo a Day. I have decided to put the camera down for June and just try some other stuff. I will pick it up again in July and probably start some new photo project or something. Until then be sure to check out my one year Photo A Day

With my down time, I have taken a stab at learning Direct3d. Don't have much to show for it yet but I am working on a little 3D game of checkers. I am looking for an idea on how to apply my new found skills but I don't have any yet. Any good game ideas that a single person could accomplish in a reasonable amount of time?

After 7 tries, I think my car is FINALLY fixed. This last trip they installed a whole new gas tank and the light hasn't come on since then. So, I think it is back to full speed on enjoying the car....just in time for the hottest part of Summer.
