Sad day for handhelds...happy day for me
Tuesday, February 14, 2006

It looks as if my favorite handheld OS is going to die a sad death.    I have used every version of Palm OS since the original PalmPilot 500 which includes some 15-16 devices.   Let's all have a moment of silence for PalmOS.  Read about it

On a happy note, I have finally found a Window Mobile device I actually like.    It took MS 5 major releases of the OS to get it stable and usable and now it's available in the i-Mate Jamin which I received a few days ago.  So far the device is great.    It's positively tiny compared to my Treo and seems just as stable.   I will give an update in a couple of days on how the transition is going but it looks like I may be able to live in a world of Windows Mobile after all.

Lazy Saturday Redesign
Sunday, February 05, 2006

It's a lazy cold winter Saturday and I was reading a digg about Web 2.0 designs.   So, I figured I would try out some of the ideas in a new theme.   Basically these new sites have a few things in common.   For example. the mostly include very minimal layouts, rounded corners, large fonts, pastel color schemes and no tables.  I didn't quite get all of it but it's a start.    I think to put it over the top in the Web2.0ness, I will need to redo the header and ditch the table borders...but it's a start.

Holodeck file extensions
Saturday, February 04, 2006

As I sit here watching star trek it occurs to me that we will never want voice interfaces on our computers.   Ignoring the fact that someone could run down the hall yelling "FORMAT DRIVE C", there is a more important reason not to talk to your computer.   Try saying this..."Computer, open file JakePrattSiteLogo.jpg"    Yep, you sound like a big dork.

Speaking of dorks, Alene and I were debating what the file extension would be for a holodeck file extension.    She saids it's probably something like ".holo however, I think it's probably something clever like *.hsf (holodeck simulation file.)
